BYRON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WZZM) -- A Byron Township company is planning to add to its factory and create new jobs.

Flow-Rite designs, makes, and markets fluid control devices for lead acid batteries and other industrial and consumer uses.

The company is investing $6 million on upgrades to Flow-Rite's existing facility and new high-speed assembly equipment. The Michigan Economic Development Corporation is giving a $224,000 grant to help with the project.

Flow-Rite was established in 1981. It currently employs a little more than 100 people, and the company plans to add 64 more jobs as part of the expansion.

The Right Place announced Flow-Rite's plans Wednesday and also announced a planned expansion by General Formulations in Sparta.

General Formulations makes materials for signage, decals, labels, large-format images, and other applications. That company is getting a grant worth $233,000 from the Michigan Strategic Fund to help pay for a $4.175 million expansion. It's expected that work will lead to 50 new jobs over the next three years.
