I'm a Co-Host/Journalist for the News at Five with a focus on Community Engagement, Community Advocacy and Social Media. I'm extremely excited to be able to tap into my passion for West Michigan and the changing media in this new role that I've held since August 2014.
Previously, you probably had a cup of coffee with me before the sun came up as you tuned into the Weekend Morning News which I anchored for several years (before I realized I'm getting too old for that 2:30 a.m. wake up call!) I truly enjoyed the time helping you figure out your next "Breakfast on the Go" stop, showcasing all the fun things you can do in West Michigan, and bringing you information you needed to know before you started your weekend. Prior to that, I was the early morning Multi Media Journalist for the morning news. I've been with the station since October 2005.
Other stops in my two decades in broadcasting include KWQC-TV & KLJB-TV in Davenport, IA, WQAD-TV, in Moline, IL, and WREX-TV in Rockford, IL. I started out in radio at WNIJ in DeKalb, IL. I grew up in Rochelle, IL (Go Hubs!) and I'm a proud Huskie graduating from Northern Illinois University (NIU).
As a reporter, I truly believe in order to tell stories that matter most you have to become involved with the community on both a professional and personal level. That's why I'm always eager to get involved and tell stories that matter most to our viewers. I also feel that it's important to laugh...a lot. So, hopefully you'll find my reports entertaining as well!
During my time in Grand Rapids, I've served as a member of multiple organizations; including AAJA Michigan (Asian American Journalism Association) , West Michigan Filipino Association, ACT of West Michigan
I'm a graduate of the Huntington Bank "Rising Women Leaders" program, Leadership Grand Rapids and Mercy Health Saint Mary's UpNext Leadership program. I've been honored as a YWCA Women of Achievement, Grand Valley State University's Amazing Asian Award, & a 2012 ATHENA Young Professional Finalist. I've also served as a mentor for Gannett Talent Development Program.
I'm passionate about encouraging diversity and raising awareness and action to end homelessness and hunger in our community. I'm also a supporter of the efforts of the YWCAin its fight against domestic violence. I'm a volunteer at Kids Food Basketand Gilda's Club of Grand Rapidsand served on the advisory committee of Kitchen Sage. I frequently donate to Children with Hairloss.
In my spare time, I enjoy exploring West Michigan with my three sons; Devin, Drake, & Payton. You'll also likely spot me getting involved in a variety of community events, performing with the Pacific Island Dancers, enjoying the beach, and trying out every restaurant West Michigan has to offer. This girl loves to eat!
