GRAND RAPIDS, (WZZM) - The planetarium has reopened at the Grand Rapids Public Museum after a 6 month renovation.
The $1.2 million dollar renovation to the Roger B. Chaffee Planetarium includes the latest projection technology, surround sound, and new seating.
Chaffee was a Grand Rapids native and Apollo astronaut who died in a pre-launch check in Apollo 1.
One of the advantages of the new equipment it allows people to see the image of the night sky on the day they visit.
This is the first overhaul since the planetarium opened in 1994.
