MUSKEGON, Mich. (WZZM) - Two Muskegon residents and their pet python are safe after their house caught fire Sunday night.The fire started around 7:30 p.m. at the home in the 600 block of Catherine Avenue.

The homeowners were able to get out of the house quickly, but did not have time to call the fire department. A neighbor who saw the fire was able to flag down a driver, and the driver was able to call for help.

The neighbor also convinced the homeowners not to go back into the home to save their snake. However, firefighters were able to rescue the animal.

It took about 45 minutes for firefighters to get control of the fire.

An official cause has not been determined.
