IONIA, Mich. (WZZM) -- The Ionia County Sheriff's Department recently launched an app to improve communication between the department and the community.
The app, called "Mobile Patrol," lets users find information on recent bookings and sex offenders who live nearby.
It also notifies victims of crimes when an offender's custody status changes.
"The main focus...is to allow our victims another way to be notified when the perpetrator who's attacked them, or whatever, caused them to become a victim, is released from jail," said Ionia County Sheriff Dale Miller. "So if they're in fear, or want to take extra protection to protect themselves, they'll have this app right on their smartphone."
The app also lets users send police tips anonymously.
The download is free, and available for both Apple and Android devices. Using a mobile device, visit http://www.appriss.com/MP_Download/ to download the app.
