ARMADA, Mich. (DETROIT FREE PRESS) -- An Armada teen whose body was found in a wooded area north of the Macomb Orchard trail two weeks ago died of blunt head trauma and asphyxia due to neck compression, according to a death certificate filed today in the Macomb County Clerk's Office.
April Millsap's death certificate states that the approximate interval between onset and death was minutes and lists her manner of death as a homicide.
Her dog, Penny, led joggers to her body in a ditch near the trail July 24. She was 14.
Authorities hadn't released how she died, except to say there were no gunshot or stab wounds.
A task force of local, state and federal authorities have been working to determine who killed her.
Earlier today, Michigan State Police Lt. Michael Shaw said authorities were not releasing any new information.
About 200 people attended April's funeralFriday in Armada. About a mile from the church, a police dive team searched a lake close to the crime scene looking for evidence.
A week after April's body was found, police and FBI agents investigating her death stopped vehicles entering and leaving the village in hopes of finding information pertinent to the case.
