When DeVos launched her fashion line in 2002, she didn't know what to expect. Now her fashions are being worn on Hollywood red carpets.
(WZZM) - In West Michigan, we know her as Pam DeVos, part of the DeVos family. But in New York City and the world of fashion, Pamella Roland is one of the big names.
She took her dream of designing clothes and turned it into a huge success. She is now taking her "passion for fashion" into the classroom in Grand Rapids, helping students here who want a career in fashion.
The Pamella Roland DeVos School of Fashion at Kendall College in Grand Rapids began offering a degree in Fashion Studies in 2012. The program started with nine students. It now has 45. Right now, in Grand Rapids, students can learn the fashion business, without having to go to New York or Los Angeles.
"I have a Business degree from Michigan State University and I have an arts background, but I never really had what they are learning today," says DeVos. "It's so amazing."
When DeVos launched her fashion line in 2002, she didn't know what to expect. Now her fashions are being worn on Hollywood red carpets. Recently, Good Morning America's Robin Roberts wore Pamella Roland while she was a guest judge on Dancing with the Stars.
"I never dreamed when I started this business, it would come this far," said DeVos. "In the very beginning, when you first see it, you scream... 'ohhh'... now, you know, it's very exciting... always excited to see that."
The next big red carpet event is this Sunday night at the Billboard Music Awards and we can expect to see Pamella Roland gowns.
Christina Aguilera, Carrie Underwood and Kelly Pickler are among the stars the who've worn her fashions to that event. The Billboard Music Awards are on WZZM 13 Sunday, starting at 8:00pm.
