(WZZM) - There is some good news about new breast cancer drugs that may be able to stop tumor growth.
Two experimental drugs show promise in treating advanced forms of breast cancer.
The first, made by Pfizer, is added to a standard breast cancer treatment.
In a study done by the drugmaker the combination stopped tumor growth for more than 20 months, nearly double the time when compared to standard treatments alone.
The second drug, made by Eli Lilly, also slowed down tumor growth by 30% in in 33 of 47 patients in a trial.
Both drugs target certain proteins that cancer cells use to help tumors grow. Stopping the proteins seems to stall the cancer.
Researchers plan to conduct larger clinical trials.
