SAUGATUCK, Mich. (WZZM) - The U.S. Coast Guard helped rescue a diver in Lake Michigan this weekend. The man was diving in 100 feet of water about five mile west of Saugatuck, Saturday morning.

The diver had a problem with his air regulator around 11:30 a.m. He was assisted by his diving partner, by the time the two of them reached the surface the man had stopped breathing.

The team contacted the Coast Guard, which sent a a 25-foot response boat from Holland and an air crew from Muskegon. The Coast Guard boat transferred the diver to waiting emergency medical services at Saugatuck Yacht Marina.

EMS took the man to a Grand Rapids hospital, he was going in and out of consciousness and had labored breathing, while in the ambulance. His current condition is unknown.
