GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) -ArtPrize is upping the reward for the winners for 2014, and giving more to juried winners.
Rick DeVos made the announcements Thursday morning. The total amount for winners still adds up to $560,000, but the top juried prize and the top public vote prize will now each receive $200,000. $20,000 will be handed out each to eight winners - two in each category - one for the public vote and one for the juried winners.
"The updates to the awards structure and equal grand prizes have the potential to change the dynamic of the event by exploring the tension between public and expert opinion," ArtPrize executive director Christian Gaines said in a statement.
Also, the top ten finalists will be replaced with a Final 20.
The annual 19-day competition is scheduled for September 24 to October 12.
Venue registration for those downtown businesses and organizations wishing to host an ArtPrize piece can start applying on Monday, March 10 at this link: http://www.artprize.org/get-involved/venues .
