Here's another sign spring is finally here; the Berlin Raceway has reopened with a whole new look.
MARNE, Mich. (WZZM) - Here's another sign spring is finally here; the Berlin Raceway has reopened with a whole new look.
Through the coldest winter days, construction crews hammered away at the latest renovations to the track and its amenities.
"We got the green flag all the way around last September, and here we are today," said Chris Danielson, announcer and vice president of sales and media.
This multi-million dollar renovation project gives racing fans more options for more comfortable seating with higher elevation, private suites, plus more spots to grab food. And, wait until you see the big screens, "We're putting a couple robotic cameras into the corners, so our actual race broadcast will be greatly enhanced this year as well."
Danielson hopes the improvements coincide with even greater national recognition. "The racing at Berlin for the last 64 years has been known as being some of the best short-track racing in the country. This track has produced super star after super star."
Now while fans are catching a race, they can make plans for other summer outings. "The facility is going to be open for a lot more than just racing...There's nothing that we're not going to be able to offer to make the experience here at the race track the best that it could possibly be."
The track is open now, but the official ribbon-cutting ceremony is not until May 17. Everyone is welcome to celebrate at the ceremony along with members of the WZZM 13 team.
