The comedy festival that set records for the most rubber chickens thrown and most fake mustaches worn in one place will begin with an attempt to have the most people wearing sunglasses in the dark.
GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) -- Laughfest organizers are setting their sights on another world record -- the most people wearing sunglasses in the dark.
The comedy festival benefiting Gilda's Club begins on March 6 in Grand Rapids with a Community Kickoff event at Rosa Parks Circle. Organizers plan to get as many people together as needed to break the world record set in July 2012 by 1,642 participants at Chicago's Wrigley Field.
The kickoff begins with activities and a line up at 5:30 p.m. on March 6. A practice for settign the world record will be at 7:00 p.m., with the official attempt at 7:15 p.m.
"This free event will help set the stage for 10-days of laughter for the health of it," says Wendy Wigger, president of Gilda's LaughFest and Gilda's Club Grand Rapids, in a news release. "What better way to shun the winter blues than with the optimistic donning of bright yellow sunglasses!"
Last year, 1,532 people were on hand to set the world record for the most people wearing fake mustaches at a single venue. Laughfest has also set records for people wearing chicken beaks and performing the chicken dance, and the most people throwing rubber chickens.
Laughfest will feature headliners including Jay Leno, Lily Tomlin, Chris Tucker and Jim Gaffigan, and dozens of other performers and events in Grand Rapids between March 6-16.
