GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM)-- The cross-over between the big screen and the small stage is fairly common, and Chris Tucker is back at the latter while he takes a break from the former.

Tucker, co-star of the three Rush Hour movies with Jackie Chan, is appearing at LaughFest Friday, performing stand-up. Tucker made a name for himself with comedy stand-up as part of the televised Def Jam Comedy Series in the early 1990s. After a successful two decades in Hollywood, Tucker has made a conscious effort to return to where it all started: the stand-up stage.

Tucker's comedy show is rated "Clean Family Fun" on the LaughFest website. Tucker made a conscious effort over the years to use less profanity and focus more on being funny in a clean way.

"Yes, I think it's better because I think it's harder to be funny and a little cleaner. It's easy to be raunchy and funny and I always wanted to challenge myself to be funny without being raunchy. It's easy to go to a certain joke and get a laugh, anybody can do that. I think a clean show can be just as funny or funnier and is the best type of comedy," Tucker told us over the phone recently.

Tucker will appear at Grand Rapids Community College's Ford Fieldhouse at 8 p.m. Friday. Reserved seating is still available at $37.50 and $57.50. Proceeds will benefit Gilda's Club of Grand Rapids, which provides emotional support to cancer patients and their family.
