GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) -- Police say a man arrested for failing to register as a sex offender may be responsible for a shooting that wounded two teenagers last month in downtown Grand Rapids.

Rodney Scot Armstrong, 25, was arrested Tuesday on an unrelated charge of failure to register as a sex offender. Armstrong is now charged with two counts of assault with intent to murder, felony firearm, being a felon in possession of a firearm, and being a habitual offender, fourth offense.

The shooting happened just after midnight on June 18 near the bars along Ionia Avenue SW. Two teens, aged 16 and 17, were shot, one in the back and the other in the buttocks. One of the victims remains hospitalized three weeks later.
