GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) -- It is a sign that spring is right around the corner-- the butterflies have arrived at Frederik Meijer Gardens.

WZZM 13 got a sneak peak as butterflies from Asia, Africa, and south America are being released for the first time this in the topical conservatory.

The Butterflies are Blooming exhibit opens to the public March 1 and along with the thousands of butterflies, the 80 degree temperatures inside should come as welcome change for those suffering the winter blues.

"The Butterflies are Blooming exhibit comes at the perfect time when people are just getting tired of white, of snow, of the cold and they come in here and it is just so drastically different; it's an oasis, it's warmth," said Lucinda Grover, head horticulturist at Frederik Meijer Gardens.

This is the 19th year of the exhibit and around 12,000 butterflies will be released. The exhibit runs through April 30.
