GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) -- The Kent County Sheriff's Department says a 34-year-old inmate died Tuesday morning after suffering medical complications.
Guards discovered Jason Tappin suffering a medical emergency during a routine check around 5:30 a.m. He was transported to the hospital and later died.
An autopsy was performed Wednesday but a cause of death was inconclusive. Toxicology results are pending.
Tappin had been jailed since February 3 for manufacturing and delivering a controlled substance and a probation violation, authorities said. He was assigned to the Kent County Jail's work release center March 11.
