GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WZZM) -- A dozen mothers mothers gathered along Eastern Avenue Thursday afternoon, sitting next to large pictures of their sons. Those sons all were killed in acts of street violence.
The women are all part of the Mothers on a Mission group, which works to raise awareness of the consequences of violence.
The group was formed in partnership with the Grand Rapids Police Department.
Participant Leia Huff said, "We do this to show support for one another. We do this as an outcry to other young men, and we ask them, 'Do you want your mom to be sitting out here besides your picture?' That's why I do it."
