GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) -- A taxi cab route turned into an armed robbery in Grand Rapids early Monday morning. It happened just as the passenger was being dropped off. Police say instead of paying the cab driver, the suspect pulled out a gun and demanded money.

The Calder City cab driver picked up the suspect at Burton and Kalamazoo and dropped off him off at Fulton Street and Dennis Avenue South East. Police say the suspect took cash and started running northbound at around 1 a.m.

Police set up a perimeter in the neighborhood to search for the suspect, but were unable to find him. Right now, there is only a vague description of the suspect, but police are working to find out more.

The cab driver was not injured. Investigators are not saying how much the suspect stole. They say the suspect also took the driver's keys. Officers later found them in the area.
