GRAND RAPIDS, Mich., (WZZM) -- The new owners of an iconic West Side bar won approval Thursday to move forward with their plans.
The owners are in the process of renovating the old Kopper Top bar on Stocking Avenue. After 42 years in business, the bar closed in 2012.
The Grand Rapids Planning Commission gave the new owners approval to operate a restaurant with alcohol until 2 a.m.
Grand Rapids Planning Commission Director Suzanne Schulz says it's nice to see new construction in that area.
"To have new investment in that neighborhood is exciting, and it brings new energy and new investment to the West Side. With Rockford Construction going in, they're really looking to make a change over there, near the downtown area."
The old Kopper Top bar will re-open as the Blue Dog Bar and Grille.
