SIDNEY TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WZZM) -- A Montcalm County pastor died in a weekend crash after his car veered into a lake.
Kurt Allen Hoffman, 53, of Stanton was discovered inside his submerged car Sunday morning with his seat belt still on.
A passing driver noticed the car in Lampman Lake, located on South Brown Road, between West County Farm Road and Ruby Road.
Montcalm County Sheriff's deputies say Hoffman's car veered off the road at a curve, struck a fallen tree, and went into the lake at a high rate of speed. Hoffman's family last saw him Saturday morning; it's unclear when the crash happened.
No one else was hurt in the crash, which remains under investigation. Results from an autopsy and toxicology tests were not in as of Monday evening.
Hoffman was a longtime pastor at Trinity Evangelical Free Church in Stanton.
The Administrative Pastor there, Mark Edwards, said "the term pillar of the community really doesn't come close enough... he was just a marvelous man. It's devastating the whole community we're reeling in it but we know, God has a plan."
Tentative plans call for visitation for Pastor Hoffman Tuesday night, with a service Wednesday, at Trinity Church.
