OAKFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WZZM) -- One person was killed and three others injured in a two-vehicle accident that forced deputies to close part of 14 Mile Road (M-57) west of Greenville.

It happened around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday at 14 Mile and Wellman Avenue NE in Oakfield Township.

Michigan State Police say that a red Toyota Camry was heading east on 14 Mile Road when it used the right shoulder to pass another eastbound vehicle. The driver of the Camry lost control coming back onto the roadway and crossed into oncoming traffic, where it was hit by a westbound Chevy Traverse.

The driver of the Camry, a 21-year-old from Greenville, was pinned in vehicle and is currently in serious condition. Two passengers in the Camry were ejected and one of them, a 20-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene. The other passenger is in stable condition.

The driver of the Chevy Traverse, a 35-year-old woman from Cedar Springs, was also taken to the hospital and is listed in stable condition.

AeroMed was called to transport one victim to the hospital. All the others were taken to the hospital by ambulance.

Police say that alcohol and speed were determining factors in the crash. Because of the extensive damage to the Camry, it is not known if any of the passengers were wearing seatbelts.

Anyone with further information is asked to call Michigan State Police at (616) 866-4411.
