HOLLAND, Mich. (WZZM) -- They've got the truck out, and now engineers will determine how much damage was done to a US-31 overpass.

The crane on a Padnos truck was elevated when the driver, heading north on Washington, tried to go under US-31. The top of the crane pierced two of the steel support girders. The accident happened around 2:30 Monday afternoon, and it took until about 10:30 Monday night to slowly ease it out from under there.

Captain Jack Stewart of Holland Public Safety said the resulting damage will inconvenience drivers in the area for some time -- the length of which is yet to be determined. There will be traffic delays while the girders are examined and either replaced or repaired.

One lane of southbound US-31 over Washington is opened Monday evening after being closed completely because of the crash. Washington remains closed in both directions and will be until engineers can make sure nothing above the road there is loose and can fall.
