PARK TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WZZM) -- Ottawa County Sheriff's deputies are trying determine what caused a driver to crash into the remnants of a gas station.

The crash happened around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday at 32nd Avenue and 64th Street in Park Township. Investigators say 68-year-old Frank Blossom of Grand Rapids failed to stop at the intersection and hit the cement footings from a former gas station.

Paramedics took five people to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, including Blossom, 68-year-old Joseph Shevelson, 62-year-old Loris Shevelson, 64-year-old George Vonsoosten and 64-year-old Cheryl Vonsoosten. All four passengers are from Carmel Valley, California.

Authorities say alcohol did not play a role in the crash.
