PORTAGE, Mich. (WZZM) --Police are investigating a case of package tampering at a Meijer store.

Investigators say a suspect purchased over the counter vitamins, opened them, switched the contents and then returned them to the store where they were placed back on the shelf.

Some of the vitamins remained in the original bottles, but other were in non-labeled prescription bottles and bottles that were painted black.

Items the suspect placed in the bottle included candy, chocolate chips, walnuts, and cat food. Additionally, police say some of the bottles also contained prescription medication such as Sotalol, Coumadin, and 800 milligram ibuprofen.

The primary vitamin that has been affected is Mega Red Ultra Strength Omega-3 krill oil. Meijer says it has notified all of its stores and employees have checked products and removed any suspicious items.
