DOUGLAS, Mich. (WZZM) -- Two lakeshore homeowners were able to escape a house fire that quickly went up in flames because of the high winds Sunday nigh.
The Saugatuck Township fire department got the call around midnight. The house, sat at the corner of Wiley Road and Lakeshore Drive, on the bluff of Lake Michigan.
The brick ranch home and three vehicles are all a total loss.
The Fire Chief tells us the homeowners were home at the time, one of them smelled smoke and heard their smoke detectors go off. They were able to escape unharmed.
The fire chief says they had to use seven tanker trucks to fight the fire, and four other fire departments assisted. He says the high wind gusts fanned the flames and quickly overtook the home.
Investigators are looking into the cause.
