HOLLAND, Mich. (WZZM) -- HOLLAND, Mich. (WZZM) -- Governor Snyder made his annual stop at Tulip Time in Holland Wednesday and he brought some big news for the area: Holland will be the face of a new Pure Michigan commercial.

The governor didn't wear a suit or tie, but rather traditional Dutch attire as he helped scrub the streets in downtown Holland. This was the governor's fifth trip to Tulip time and city leaders credit him for helping to increase attendance.

"First of all, it's increased attendance at the festival which is a wonderful thing, but also people now have this expectation of seeing the governor," said mayor Kurt Dykstra.

Earlier in the day, Governor Snyder highlighted Holland in a different way. A new 30 second Pure Michigan commercial will highlight Holland and attract tourists from Indiana to Michigan.

"The success of the Pure Michigan brand is so spectacular and associating us with that brand can only do really good things for us," said Dykstra.

"We're showing better results all the time in Michigan on tourism, in terms of hotel occupancy it continues to go up in terms of out of state spending," Snyder said.

The governor also urged Holland manufacturers to share the spotlight as he toured EBW Electronics, calling it a great success story for the auto industry.

"That's why I'm proud to tour here -- we've to brag, we've got to get these guys to show off even more -- to be loud and proud Michiganders because this is what we can do across the world," Snyder said.

It's a Pure Michigan story he wants the world to see, and he's willing to do some sweeping if it gets the job done.

At the luncheon Wednesday afternoon, Dykstra said he hopes the governor can make it to Tulip Time nine years in a row; of course, that depends on how the November gubernatorial election goes.
