HOLLAND, Mich. (WZZM) -- One lane of southbound U.S. 31 remains closed after a scrap metal hauling truck crashed into the U.S. 31 overpass Monday afternoon.
The bridge has been determined safe for motorists, but engineers are still working to determine if the two damaged beams can be repaired or need to be completely replaced.
A replacement would cause the lane closure to last up to 12 months and is estimated at around $400,000. A repair would cost less and take less time.
Either way, the truck driver's company, Padnos, will be charged for the full cost.
Beneath the highway, both lanes of Washington Avenue have reopened.
