GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) - The newest addition to the Grand Rapids Public School district is now open to students.

The district held a ribbon cutting event Monday morning for the new Blandford school. The new building replaces the portable manufactured building that had far outlived its life expectancy and was in need of replacement.

It's located at the Blandford Nature Center and provides students with a unique learning environment.

"Every school in Grand Rapids needs to be a unique place, and school is so very important. I think this is just an example of what we offer in Grand Rapids and we want that for every school," says Superintendent Teresa Weatherall Neal.

The new Blandford school is the first traditional public school in Grand Rapids, built with mostly private donations.
