GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) - It's back to school time and Grand Rapids Public Schools had a party Wednesday to celebrate.
There were raffles, enrollment booths, food, and entertainment provided for the thousands who came to John Ball Park. It was a fun and free way for families to get together and enjoy the last few weeks of summer.
This year Grand Rapids Public Schools is implementing their transformation plan and changing the way the district is run.
Superintendent Teresa Weatherall-Neal spoke about the school's Transformation and in particular the new uniforms. She says she is excited about them because they level the playing field.
"Students should not focus on what they are wearing. This way all of our students can wear the same thing and really get focused on education," says Weatherall-Neal.
She also said that the teachers are ready and excited to get the students back into the classrooms.
