COMSTOCK PARK, Mich. (WZZM) -- The West Michigan Whitecaps continue the process of rebuilding the burned down portion of Fifth Third Ballpark.

Construction crews were out Thursday working on the top level of the park, along the first base line. A fire on January 3 destroyed that portion of the ballpark.

Mickey Graham of the Whitecaps say he hopes the organization will do more than just rebuild the park.

"This was an awful fire but for us to rebuild and not to take a look at some ways to improve the ballpark and the experience, that's kind of short-sided on our end and we don't want to do that. We want to make sure this place is the best it can possibly be," Graham said.

Crews have a little over two months to get the park ready for opening day, which is scheduled for April 8.
