GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) -- Back to bed was the message for Grand Rapids Public Schools kids Friday morning, initially. The district's website said school was closed starting around 5:30 a.m., with the post "No School Today Due to Inclement Weather."

School officials first announced its website had been hacked. But after some investigating, they found it was a technical error.

District spokesman John Helmholdt says they were able to fix it within an hour. He says the closing message was accidentally picked for "reoccurrence" in the computer system. He says it stays in the system for a month so was used for the last closing.

As you can imagine, it created confusion. WZZM 13 reported what was on the district's website Friday morning.

"If anything, what we heard is some of the buses may have been impacted because some of the drivers thought that school was closed, so they didn't immediately come into work," said Helmholdt. "I think you had a few employees late for work, you probably had some students who either didn't show up or showed up late."

Helmholdt encourages parents to also look for robo calls and text messages to make sure school closings are accurate.
