GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) -- Grand Rapids' Heartside neighborhood was alive with art Friday night for the fifth annual Art.Downtown event.
More than 35 galleries, restaurants, and shops hosted 400 artists and their exhibits. The Grand Rapids Trolley Company provided free rides between the venues.
The event only lasts for one night, but organizers say it's a great opportunity for people to discover some businesses they may not even know about.
"It's really important, I think to have an art community like this in the city. It's all local people and we get the businesses to collaborate with the galleries and the live-work spaces. So really it's just everybody that is interested in art in the downtown area coming together seeing what each other are doing and helping each other out," explained Leah Burke.
Art.Downtown is coordinated by the Avenue for the Arts in Grand Rapids. An after-party is planned for Saturday night.
