ADA, Mich. (WZZM) -- Runners from the Grand Rapids area are looking forward to Monday's running of the 118th Boston Marathon. Many are leaving Friday for Beantown, including Kim Evans of Ada.
"Usually you feel a little nervous and I'm not feeling that way at all this year - I'm just feeling very much lucky and excited to be a part of it" Evans said Tuesday.
She will be one of 36,000 runners, a record field.
Evans was several minutes from the finish line in last year's race, when two bombs exploded. She was not near the chaos but "we were very much affected by what was going on."
Evans, a retired school teacher, now works at Gazelle Sports. She is one of five Gazelle employees running Boston.
