GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) -- The Grand Rapids Chamber of Commerce is endorsing three candidates for the August primary election: Terri Lynn Land for U.S. Senate, Congressman Bill Huizenga for the 2nd district, and Brian Ellis for the 3rd district.
Ellis is challenging fellow republican, incumbent Congressman Justin Amash.
Below is a release from the Chamber of Commerce explaining their endorsements:
Today, the Grand Rapids Area Chamber of Commerce Political Action Committee (PAC), the Friends of West Michigan Business, announced its support of former Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land for U.S. Senate, Congressman Bill Huizenga for the 2nd Congressional District and Brian Ellis for the 3rd Congressional District. Endorsements were based on a thorough vetting, including candidate questionnaires and interviews with representatives of the PAC Board.
"We need leaders in Washington who understand the importance of business and the free enterprise system," said Chamber President & CEO Rick Baker. "The path to a complete economic recovery is through the front door of every small business and in the mind of every entrepreneur."
"These candidates have a firm understanding of the issues affecting West Michigan business and will work to meet our needs," said Andy Johnston, Vice President of Government Affairs for the Grand Rapids Area Chamber of Commerce. "Michigan is leading the nation in economic recovery under probusiness policies that have been enacted at the state level and we need partners with the same mindset in Washington."
"The PAC is proud to endorse Terri Lynn Land for U.S. Senate. She is and will be a champion for free enterprise, fiscal discipline and all the hard-working men and women of Michigan," said Baker. "Growing up in a family business, we know we can count on her to fight for our job providers and small business owners in Washington."
"Bill Huizenga has proven to be an effective leader in Congress and is always ready to knock down obstacles for his constituents," said Johnston. "As a business owner, he brings a refreshing perspective and understands the needs of our members."
"In the race for the 3rd Congressional District, the PAC believed the best choice to represent the West Michigan business community and provide leadership in Washington was Brian Ellis", said Baker. "It is clear that Washington is at a crossroads and we need leaders to make the tough decisions to ensure our future is better than our past. Brian is committed to implementing policies that will create economic opportunity and eliminate hurdles to job growth."
