ROCKFORD (WZZM) -- It's received the Good Housekeeping VIP award for being a very innovative product."Yonanas" is like a healthy Snoopy Sno-Cone Machine, but it makes what seems like soft serve ice cream out of frozen bananas and other fruit.

Jenna Arcidiacono, a local chef and owner of Amore Trafforia Italiana in Comstock Park helped me test it out. We found the directions are very specific about how frozen your bananas are (thawed out of freezer for 10-15 minutes) and the degree of ripeness (cheetah-spotted works the best, not too green, not too brown).

Yonana has a small chute and a plunger. They recommend placing a frozen banana, followed by various ingredients, then end with one more frozen banana.

We were impressed at the consistency. It definitely had the texture of soft serve ice cream. We made all sorts of recipes and had fun with that. We loved bananas and chocolate, various berries, and even did a recipe for adults with Rum Chata. All were delicious.

It was really easy to use and cleaned up easily. There's no exposed blade to worry about, so it's safe for kids. It's a nice healthy dessert alternative.
