MUSKEGON, Mich. (WZZM) -- Friends of a lakeshore man who died in a motorcycle crash are raising money to help his family.

One of a series of fundraisers in honor of Jake Rameau took place Tuesday evening at Skeetown Tavern in Muskegon.

The event included car and bike washes and drink specials.

Rameau died June 26th while chasing his brother's stolen car in Muskegon Heights. He was shot and crashed.

His friends say Rameau was the first one to help others, which is why he was chasing the stolen car.

"Jake would not let anything happen to anybody, and he was at the bar and he was the quickest to hop on his bike and take off," says Katie Tenhove, Rameau's friend.

Rameau's funeral was last week.

Money raised Tuesday will help pay for that and for his daughter's future.

As for the suspect in Rameau's murder, a judge arraigned 30-year-old Robert Gee Tuesday on open murder charges.
