MUSKEGON HEIGHTS, Mich. (WZZM) -- Police have identified a teenager killed in a shooting early Wednesday morning.
Around 2:30 a.m., 14-year-old Dmetrius Washington was found shot and lying on the ground near the intersection of Hoyt Steet and Hovey Avenue.
Washington lived just a few blocks from the crime scene and was going to be a sophomore at Muskegon Heights Public School Academy.
Family members were shocked and angry. "Find the killer who killed my grandson, that is all I have to say," Barbara Render Washington's grandmother told WZZM.
"A 14-year old child, no reason, it is just senseless," another family member said. "These are babies killing babies."
Washington is the second student from the same school killed this year. In April 17-year-old Marquis Gresham was killed in a drive-by shooting.
Family members are asking for the shooter to turn him or herself in. Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to police at (231) 733-8900 or Muskegon County Silent Observer at (231) 72-CRIME.
