GRAND RAPIDS. (WZZM) -- The community response to our 13 Food for Families campaign has been overwhelming and employees who work at Fifth-Third Bank made a huge contribution Thursday.
They held their annual competition, building structures out of canned goods and other food items. Each department created a theme, bought the food, and then built their structure.
This year, a panel of judges from WZZM, Spartan-Nash, and ACCESS saw everything from a rocket-ship to running shoes.
The winning structure was called "Flush Away Hunger," and it was a huge toilet in a bathroom made with personal care products.
The project generated 5,000 pounds of food and $866 in cash for the ACCESS emergency food fund.
