COMSTOCK PARK, Mich. (WZZM) -- It's less than one month before the Whitecaps' opening day and it's not just the players who are waiting for their new home to be complete.

The team's offices were damaged by smoke in a big fire on January 3. "We have 40 to 42 full time people, so it's been difficult", says Scott Lane, president of the Whitecaps. The staff has set up a temporary office located on West River Drive, just 2.5 miles away from the stadium.

At the ballpark, there are about four food and beverage and operations managers on site. They're working out of the visitors' locker room. "It's difficult for them, but you have to have somebody on site because you get deliveries, especially this time of year."

The merchandise from the souvenir shop is also being temporarily stored until construction is complete. It's not ideal, but for now, it works. Lane says everyone is making due and determined to be ready for opening day.
