LANSING, Mich. (AP) -- Former presidential press secretary Robert Gibbs will be the keynote speaker for the Michigan Democratic Party's annual Jefferson-Jackson fundraising dinner at Detroit's Cobo Center.
Gibbs is expected to offer insights into the 2012 elections at the April 28 dinner.
He was a campaign strategist and adviser to Barack Obama on his successful 2004 U.S. Senate run and 2008 presidential campaign. Gibbs served as White House press secretary from early 2009 to early 2011, when he became an outside adviser to Obama's current re-election campaign.
Gibbs also served as Debbie Stabenow's campaign spokesman in 2000 when the then-congresswoman ran against Republican U.S. Sen. Spencer Abraham.
Stabenow upset Abraham in a tight election to become Michigan's first female senator. She's running this year for a third term.
