GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WZZM) -- A sellout crowd is not out of the question for Wednesday night's Griffins playoff home-opener. As of mid-day Tuesday, the Griffins had sold around 6,000 tickets for Wednesday's potential close-out game three against the Abbotsford Heat.

The record attendance for a Griffins playoff home-opener is 7,144 which happened in 2001 against the Cleveland Lumberjacks of the now defunct IHL.

"With this first series being a two-three series, we thought this could be a bit of a struggle," said Tim Gortsema, Griffins vice president of business operations. "{Abbotsford] had a Friday-Saturday set, then the series shifts back here for a potential Wednesday-Friday-Saturday set; we've been really pleasantly surprised to see the numbers where they're at already."

Gortsema says it's hard to ever know how box office sales will go in the postseason, because there are few guaranteed dates. The only guaranteed date in the Abbotsford series is Wednesday night. If the Griffins lose, game five will be played Friday night at Van Andel Arena.

A Griffins win Wednesday night would complete a 3-0 series sweep and advance them in the Calder Cup Playoffs.
