Game 6: Stars 7, Griffins 1. Texas wins series 4-2

(WZZM) - The Texas Stars left no doubt in what turned out to be the final game of the Grand Rapids Griffins' Calder Cup defense.

Texas raced to a 3-1 lead in the first period and routed the Griffins 7-1 in Game 6 of the AHL's Western Conference semifinals. The Stars won the series 4-2.

Grand Rapids failed to win any of the three games at the Cedar Park Center in Austin, but jumped to an early lead Sunday night on Teemu Pulkkinen's goal just :36 into the game.

The rest of the night, belonged to the home team.

The Stars answered with a pair of goals in 1:02 to take the lead in the first period.

Former Griffin and Detroit Red Wings defenseman Derek Meech had a goal and an assist for the Stars who advance to the Western Conference finals to face the Toronto Marlies.

The Stars chased starting goalie Petr Mrazek in the second period after Mrazek allowed four goals on 17 shots.

Christopher Nilstorp stopped 23 of 24 shots for Texas.
