COMSTOCK PARK, Mich. (WZZM) -- With Austin Jackson now traded away, the next everyday centerfielder for the Detroit Tigers likely will be Andy Dirks.

Wearing a Whitecaps jersey is part of his continued rehabilitation back to the bigs.

He says he's remembered West Michigan for having a good crowd, calling the area a cool spot. "It's definitely a gem in minor-league baseball," he said.

Dirks is wearing number 53 with the 'Caps.

The Tigers had him on a limit Friday night, of five innings or three at-bats, whichever came first.

He was the lead-off hitter. In the bottom of the first, he was stranded on-base. In the bottom of the third, he came up just short of a homer. In his last plate appearance, in the bottom of the fifth, he grounded into an inning-ending double play.

The Whitecaps beat Fort Wayne 5-2.
