South Christian has a handful of returning players who won the state championship two years ago and made it to the finals last year.

In 2014 they're looking to repeat and, this time, win it all.

Senior Jon Wassink is verbally committed to Western and has high expectations for the team.

"Losing it last year, we have a lot of motivation to get back there this year. I think our team is very driven, that always helps at the beginning of the season."

Wassink also says that the players who are second-year starters add experience and that's always a good thing.

Head coach Mark Tamminga thinks having a junior-heavy team last year will benefit South Christian this year, as well.

"These kids learned a lot, you know, runners up last year. This senior class... a deep run in playoffs is what they're looking for and they'll be disappointed if they don't get it."

Tamminga is taking this season one game at a time.

"I want to see them play with passion. Take it personal. One-on-one, you against him... beat him. Find a way to do it. That's what we talk about every day."

South Christian plays at Grand Rapids Christian on Friday, August 29th.
