Phoenix Coyotes goalie Mike Smith is considered day-to-day after leaving Monday's game against the New York Rangers with an apparent right leg injury.

The team is waiting to evaluate the results of tests done Tuesday in Pittsburgh and expects to know more about the severity of the injury by Wednesday.

In the meantime, goalie Mark Visentin will be recalled from the American Hockey League to back up goalie Thomas Greiss.

BOX SCORE: Rangers 4, Coyotes 3 (OT)

Smith was injured with 7:34 remaining in the third period of Monday's game at Madison Square Garden. As he was in his butterfly position in the crease, Rangers forward Derick Brassard fell awkwardly on top of Smith, who immediately yelled out in pain and reached for his right leg. He was helped off the ice without putting any pressure on his leg.

Greiss finished out the game, which the Coyotes lost 4-3 in overtime.
