SARANAC, MICH. - One person was killed and two other seriously injured in a crash involving two semi-trucks that crashed head-on in Ionia County.
The crash happened around 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 5, in the area of M-21 and Hawley Highway. Police closed the intersection to traffic.
According to Ionia County Sheriff's Office, a tandem-trailer grain truck, driven by 34-year-old Trevor Vanderwall of Hemlock, was traveling westbound of East Bluewater Highway (M-21) near Hawley Highway when pickup truck traveling southbound, driven by 40-year-old Lisa Thrush of Saranac, pulled into Vanderwall's path causing the crash.
Officials say that in attempt to avoid crashing into the pickup truck, Vanderwall cross into the eastbound lane of M-21 where he hit a semi-truck head on. The crash caused the death of the other truck driver, 47-year-old Anthony Nunez from Hudsonville.
Thrush and her 18-year-old son, Hunter Thrush-Davis, suffered serious injuries but are expected to be okay.
Power lines have been downed because of the crash. Consumers Energy's outage map shows at least 750 customers without power.
