GRAND RAPIDS, MICH. - Starting June 5, construction on Ottawa Avenue will force Grand Rapids drivers to seek alternate routes.
According to Michigan Department of Transportation, the on and off ramps from east and westbound I-196 will be closed for about 2 to 3 weeks for road reconstruction. Ottawa Avenue will be getting reconstructed between Michigan and Hastings streets.
It is advised that drivers use the College Avenue exits instead.
MDOT says that a new traffic light will be added to the area, as well as installing a new water main, making Ottawa a one way street north of Michigan Avenue and allowing more turning options for drivers exiting the highway.
