Kent Co. deputy injured in crash on icy road

ROCKFORD, MICH. - A Kent County deputy is recovering from a Tuesday morning crash in Rockford.

According to a release from sheriff's department, the deputy was responding to a pickup truck in a ditch on Courtland Drive NE when the crash happened.

While policing the accident, the deputy pulled into a driveway to turn around. He was backing out of the private drive when another driver on a hill was unable to stop due to the icy road conditions, hitting the side of the deputy's patrol car.

The other driver was not injured. The deputy was taken to Spectrum Butterworth with back pain for further evaluation.

The deputy did have his overhead lights on and according to the sheriff's office, no citations were issued.
