Police: SUV crashes into garbage truck

ORLEANS TOWNSHIP, MICH. - Police are investigating a Tuesday morning crash between a garbage truck and an SUV.

Deputies responded to the accident around 7:45 a.m. at the intersection of Belding Road/M-44 and North State Road/M-66 in Orleans Township, according to the Ionia County Sheriff's Department.

The waste truck was driven by 63-year-old John Bishop of Cedar Springs. The sheriff's office report states the truck was stopped at the intersection waiting to make a right turn. A Chevy Suburban, driven by 82-year-old Marnie Schnicke of Orleans, was traveling southbound.

Police say Schnicke thought the truck was going to pull out in front of her and applied her brakes; she lost control of the vehicle because of the wet roadway, skidding out of the travel lane and hitting the waste truck stopped in the intersection.

Schnicke was taken to an area hospital for treatment. Schnicke and Bishop sustained non-life-threatening injuries, according to the release.
