Westbound, eastbound I-96 in Ionia County reopens after power lines fall

BERLIN TOWNSHIP, MICH. - Downed power lines in Ionia County forced the closure of a portion of I-96.

The Michigan Department of Transportation reports the eastbound and westbound lanes of I-96 at Jordan Lake Road (exit 64) closed for about 45 minutes Wednesday, March 8. The highway reopened before 1 p.m.

High winds are likely to blame. An 11 a.m. report at the Ionia County Airport shows a peak wind gust of 62 mph.

Drivers can take eastbound exit 59 and westbound exit 67 to avoid the closure and a major traffic backup.
